Wild Wood
a project about finding the wild in the city
Images Cristina Wilson
When we stand in a wood we hear the movement of leaves blown by the wind, rustled by animals. Our eyes adjust to absorb subtle variations of colour, texture and distance. An absence of man made noise; engines, sirens, phones, gives us space to breathe deeper and feel our feet on the ground.
The restorative effects of nature on the human nervous system are well documented, but it doesn't take an expert to notice that stepping away from the persistent clamour of modern cities can be restorative and inspiring.
For the last four years I have made a weekly trip to Queens Wood, Highgate to explore the effects of moving in nature. Sometimes alone, sometimes with friends. Watch this space for further developments about this project.
