Contact Improvisation dance class & jam in Forest Row
Contact Improvisation is a practice that offers us a tangible way to move our bodies in relationship to ourselves, the ground and other bodies. A group dance focusing on listening and expression where weight sharing can be an option.
Classes will focus on a theme/principle each week. Skills for ease of flow, weight sharing and jam dancing. It is also a warm up for the jam.
A Jam is a free dance space in which dancers follow contact improvisation principles to dance solo, or with any number of dance partners, always maintaining awareness of their contention to the dance space as a whole. There can be music or no music and its important to be able to follow your own dance regardless of what sound support there is.
Guidelines for practice:
wear comfortable, loose clothing and no jewellery or belts as these can scratch other dancers.
Listen to yourself and your partners, leave a dance at any time in order to take care of yourself, you’re not expected to give a reason.
If sexual energy arises do not follow it.
